Fletcher O'Leary (born 10 June 1997[1]) is an Australian child actor. He is best known for playing the role of Mickey Gannon in the Australian soap opera Neighbours from 19 June 2007 to 14 July 2009.[1]
O'Leary's younger brother Blake O'Leary joined the Neighbours cast in October 2007, playing Ben Fitzgerald. Blake originally auditioned for Mickey at the same time as his brother.[2] O'Leary also has a sister called Holly.[3] Fletcher shares a birthday with his brother and his father.[1]
He attends year 8 at Eltham College of Education with best friend Elliot Lawry and Jarrah Waites.[1] He also attended Warranwood Primary School, where his younger brother and sister, Blake and Holly, go and where his mother Jacinta O'Leary works as the Performing Arts teacher.
Fletcher says he enjoys "skateboarding, jumping on the trampoline and playing chasy" as well as visiting the beach, taking photos (he is learning to use an old Pentax), the High School Musical movies and going to watch Carlton football matches with his father and brother.[3] He plays football every Saturday for the Croydon Arrows.[1]
He is learning tap, jazz and ballet with his brother.[1] He has been dancing since he was five and says it makes him "really happy". He once danced with Dein Perry during a "Tap Dogs" tour.[3] He does horseriding in Warrandyte with his favourite horse Banjo, and he mostly plays soccer with his mates at school. He got elected "Wellington" House Sports Captain at primary school which was the best and basically won everything because all his friends were in it and it had every single sporty person in it. He wants to one day be in a musical film and is learning to sing and play the piano.[3]
For his role as Mickey, O'Leary was nominated for "Best Child Actor (Under 16)" at the 2008 Digital Spy Soap Awards.[4] The same year also saw O'Leary nominated for "Best Young Actor" at the Inside Soap Awards.[5] In 2009, O'Leary was again nominated for "Best Young Actor" at the Inside Soap Awards.[6]
